Humayun died as a result of an unfortunate accident at the age of 48 yrs. He was stepping down the stairs of his library in a hurry, when he heard the sacred call of the Muslim priest (Muezzin), for the evening prayer participation. Out of gratitude he turned to bow down his knee in prayer, when accidentally one of his foot got entangled in the edge of his robe (royal flowing dress of Mugal's) & he fell down the stairs. He landed on his head & got severe hurt on his right temple on account of which, he died 2 days after the strange accident on the fateful day of 24th Jan, 1556.
WHAT IS REALLY STRANGE & INTERESTING IN THIS AFFAIR..........is that, at the time when Humayun died his prodigy son, 'AKBAR', who was on only 13 yrs old then, was somewhere 300 miles away from home. He was doing some campaigning work for his father the king.....
Because of a lot of rivalry &internal disturbance in the Humayun's kingdom, it was thought that, disclosing the sudden uneventful death of the King, in the absence of his son (the true heir) could lead to complications, where in, other influential leaders, realtives (Humayun's brothers) & neighbouring rulers (Afghans etc) could try to hijack the sitaution.
Hence the best alternative decided was not to disclose the information of the Kings death until his son Akbar returned back. But the only problem was that, in the, mean time, who would run the affairs of the state. If the King was found absent, it would lead to suspicion.
Hence the family, found a replacement for the king. A person, who resembled Humayun in physical appearance & would make public appearance on behalf of the King, taking care that he would not go too close to the public i.e. maintain a reasonable distance.
Once Akbar returned back, the Kings death was officially declared & Akbar was declared the new Emperor.
